Q: Apple mouse replacement takes 12 days

Only one year after purchase my Apple mouse started to show random malfunction. I can't work without the mouse.

This particular mouse has been purchased together with a Mac Book Pro 15" in September 2015.

I taked to Apple support about the problem, and they recommended me to talk to a distributor nearby.

You can't believe, the distributor claimed not to have the mouse in stock and asked 12 days for replacement.

I find this procedure outrageous.

Believe me, I am protected by Apple Care until September 2018.

Does anyone have experienced the same situation?

Can you wait that long for a mouse?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

what part of the world are you writing from?

Do you have an Apple Store available to you?

Have you considered a different pointing device, such as an Apple wireless trackpad?

    Dear Grant,

    Thanks for your time.

I am writing from Brazil, should I be "worried". Am I a second class citizen?

Yes we have Apple Stores available at my home town.

Regarding your last question I am totally unable to survive without a mouse.

Now please answer my question. Can you wait for 12 days to have a mouse from Apple repladeced?

What difference does it make if we can wait 12 days for a mouse to be replaced? We are not you, and we are not Apple. Are you looking for assistance, or just someone's opinion? You may also want to dial back that attitude a bit. No one insinuated that you needed to be worried or that you were "any" class citizen.

The question about your location would have to do with where you are in regards to where stock may be located, and whether or not you can get assistance from an Apple store, rather than the distributor that you refer to in your original post. Can you go to a local Apple Store to see about a replacement? Or are you referring to a authorized re-seller, rather than Apple?

The 12 day replacement time has been officially given by an Apple distributor supported by Apple in Brazil.

I am looking for your view regarding replacement time for my mouse.

As I said in the beginning we are customers at the bitter end.

If you have immediate replacement where you are and I have to wait 12 days something is wrong at my side.

Anyway can you answer that simple question?

If you can't just forget it.

I guess if I have to wait 12 days, then I have to wait 12 days.

Quite honestly if the item is not in stock, and it takes 12 days to get one, then yes, you or anyone in that situation would have to wait the 12 days. Or find an alternative store or company to get the replacement from.  But they cannot conjure it if they don't have it. And I don't see anything in the AppleCare agreement or standard warranty that mentions any promise of some minimum time for service or parts. It takes however long it takes.

If they're out of stock, they don't have anything to send you. What, exactly, would you have them do?

Yes, I could wait. I'd probably hie myself over to the local computer store (drug store, big box store, dollar store) and pick up a cheap mouse for use in the meanwhile. Depending on the return period, you might even be able to return that one later. Or, keep it as a spare if having a mouse is that crucial to you.

If buying a substituted mouse is not possible, well, you do have the track pad. You might not like it as much as the mouse, but it will do the job.

I bought not one mouse, I bought two.

Of course Apple is not going to refund me.

Yes, I am very dissatisfied with Apple distributors, Apple, and you name it.

This is not a way to treat customers...

If you bought the mouse from Apple, you have 14 days to return it. If you bought it from someone else, you should have check the refund/exchange policy before purchasing. Apple will not refund you for anything you bought from someone else.

IT would seem that someone has no idea how stock and ordering works. Quite demanding wouldn't you say?!

The internet, Amazon have worsened people's innate desire for immediate gratification. The idea that, when you order something, you may have to wait longer than until tomorrow, is becoming an anathema.

I have purchased the mouse from Apple together with a MacBook Pro Retina 15" just one year ago.

I have also bought an AppleCare Protection Plan with validity up to September 2018.

I am retired today, during my working years I have been among other functions Sales and AfterSales Manager, and for sometime I have also served as a Procurement Manager for a large truck manufacturer.

We treated our customers a bit different.

I am loosing my time here and waisting yours.

Please let's end this discussion here.

    Thank you all!

So the companies you procured from magically provided you with things they didn't have? They never told you you needed to wait a few days until the item was available? No, I didn't think so.
