Q: LED Cinema Display Issue

Hi,

Recently I got my hands on a Mac Mini (Late 2014) and a 2008 model LED Cinema Display. Whenever I plug in the display into the Mac Mini, the screen flickers and goes black. I have gotten the display to work a few times by doing this.

1. Turn on Mac Mini without LED Cinema Display plugged in but with HDMI plugged in.

2. Change resolution of HDMI screen to 1024x768.

3. Plug in the display through the Lightning port.

4. Turn off Mac.

5. Turn on.

When I turn it on, the screen works. But, whenever I unplug my HDMI cable, the display goes black again and doesn't turn on until I do the steps over again. What is the issue? I believe it's more of a software issue than a hardware one.

I'm on El Capitan by the way.

    - What do you mean by "3. Plug in the display through the Lightning port.

Only later model iPods, iPhones and iPad have Lightning ports.

Do you mean you connect it to the Mini's Thunderbolt port? You Cinema monitor has a mini displayport video input and that plugs into a Thunderbolt port as well as a mini displayport.

    - It sounds like you have to monitors connected. One via HDMI and another via Thunderbolt port

    - Does the Cinema work when connected as the only monitor?

    - Does the Cinema monitor work OK when connected to another computer?
