Q: 10.11.6 update has crippled my Mac Pro

Having trouble after update to 10.11.6 - System preferences panes won't open, can't seem to find any app that will open - reports of apps damaged, including disk utility, console, etc. Restart and shut down/restart don't clear it. Came looking for reports - problem seems not universal. Had successful update on my MacBook Pro, but my Mac Pro now seems in dire straits. Went the Recovery route and re-inatalled OS X . 10.11.6 was installed. Still no joy. Application folder shows only a bare few, and not the Apple applications. Cannot open any System Preferences panes. Safe Boot does not complete. Hardware OK - can boot successfully to a clone (CCC) of only a few days ago. Could do a restore (from Time Machine BU), but that is a last resort. Looking for others facing similar challenges and their success at resolving the issues.

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), 3.2 GHz Quad Xeon 16GB RAM, 12TB HD

My machine is so slow after the upgrade, it is almost unusable.  I hope a fix is coming.

Get back to Snow Leopard. The El Capitan is a con it was created with back doors where the people that suppose to spy on us all have free access even while the machine is unplugged.  This I've been told by the Apple Store techs

I restored my system from a Time Machine backup to just prior to the upgrade.  All problems went away.

I've had this problem right after some updates too. And it was not possible to run the Terminal and Console.

    The only solution that helped:

    1) On the problem disk (Macintosh HD in my case) Go to Folder (Shift-Command-g) /private/var/folders and trash ALL contents (enter admin password).

Since the entire folder /private/var/folders is used for "per-user temporary files and caches" (man hier), and, taking into consideration the numerous reports of normal operation by another user, I decided to remove all of its contents but not the folder itself.

N.B.! Do not delete the folder folders ! And don't touch anything else in /private/var/

    2) Empty the trash and reboot to main MacOS.

P.S. Safe boot did not help. Partially cleanup /private/var/folders did not help too.

I have even worse problem on my iMac.  After 10.11.6 install, it won't boot up.  After entering my pw, it just freezes with the rotating gear forever.  Reinstall of system doesn't fix it.

How did you reinstall on a computer that doesn't boot up?

I recently installed the update, maybe within the last month.  I have had only the one problem of my web browser (Chrome) getting hijacked by Malware. I really have no idea how it got into my system.  Seems like El Capitan is feeble in security and it does seem slow overall.  My start up takes FOREVER.

And my old Macbook Pro takes less than one minute, using 10.11.6, so it's not the software that Apple wrote, what else do you have running on it. any antivirus by chance.

Run Etrecheck and post the report here, lets take a look at it. (Etrecheck link is in the before you, the one from Allan Eckert)

Chrome is currently using over 1GB of RAM, (1/4 of all RAM available) try again without it, and your Mac is currently indexing as well, not surprised that it's slow.
