Windows 10 download expects an existing Windows 7 installation, and will upgrade over it, using the Windows 7 license key to construct a new Windows 10 license key. The free Windows 10 upgrade period expired at the end of July. Boot Camp in El Capitan no longer supports a Windows 7 installation.

I do not recommend directly installing Windows (any version) directly into the Mac without Boot Camp, or one of the virtual machine solutions (e.g. VirtualBox, VMWare, Parallels).

You can install Windows 10 using Boot Camp Assistant or using a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox. If you are using Boot Camp Assistant follow the instructions located here: http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

If you are using a virtual machine, follow the instructions located at each of the virtual machine sites.

FWIW, if you have a Windows 10 install USB you can download the Windows 10 .iso using the product key you bought.
