Q: Trouble connecting MacBook Pro to tv monitor.

I'm trying to connect my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) to an external tv monitor (KONKA). I bought VGA cord and HDMI adaptor. When I connect to the monitor, it still says "no signal." My MacBook screen, however, flashes black, then normal, then black, then normal...

Like because the Mac's HDMI port does not provide sufficient power to the converter. That possibility is discussed here:

I would get a mini displayport>VGA adapter. The mini displayport end plugs into a Thunderbolt port on the Mac.
