Q: Setting up an iPad after being locked out but not remembering what my Apple ID is or password.

Basically i am trying to help my sister in law with her iPad. She had originally forgot her password to get into her iPad and so she got locked out. I googled how to reset it and so i connected the iPad to a laptop and went through iTunes (without signing in). Now that the iPad has been swiped clean it is now on the reactivating stage...

I have typed in the country, wifi etc and now it is asking for the Apple ID and password which was used to set the iPad up originally which she can not remember. She doesn't know which email address she used and she can't remember her password. I have been searching for ages now on what to do can anyone help!?!?!?

Is she still logged into the account anywhere so that she can look it up ? Or does she have any of the account's downloads in her computer's iTunes library so that she can do 'get-info' on them and see the id ? If not has she tried : If you forgot your Apple ID - Apple Support ?

If she still can't find it, and if she was the original purchaser of the iPad (i.e. it wasn’t bought used), she could try going to an Apple Store (she should make a Genius Bar appointment if she does) or try contacting iTunes Support online (https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html) and see if they can remove the iPad from the account - they are likely to want to see proof of ownership before they might help e.g. original receipt with the serial number on it

I have tried the Apple Support and it asks for her first name, last name and email address. Only problem is when i type in her current email address it says that there is no Apple ID linked to the email. She can't remember her old email address and doesn't know the password either. She has had this iPad now for a couple of years so won't have the receipt anymore. Is there no way of completely clearing the iPad like when you've bought a brand new one and you have the option to start new without an iCloud address?

Not if Settings > iCloud > Find iPad is enabled, that is activation lock - she will either need to find/remember the id that she was using the on iPad, or find its receipt (if she can't find it she could try contacting the store that she bought it from and see if they can issue a duplicate)
