Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

Happens to me after 3 months out of warranty

No compensation whatsoever through an apple store even they know it was an issue with the design and promised me that if i pay 350$ for repair, they will reinforce the touch ic.   i hope apple would pick up the tab

They also cannot trade in to a new 6s because it was defective.  we are left in the cold for this one.

    From the Guardian yesterday.

Samsung has suspended sales of its brand-new top-end Galaxy Note 7smartphone and is offering replacements for anyone who has already purchased one, but has stopped short of a full recall.

Hopefully they will continue to fix their mistake unlike other companies who ignore them

I'm not sure what the difference is between replacing the ones it has sold with new ones and "a full recall". Carriers are stopping sales of the devices. It appears that Samsung has not yet announced the procedure for replacement but it still sounds like a recall to me.

The difference is simple, a recall replaces all of the phones that may be affected (regardless of whether they are) but a replacement policy only deals with the ones that actually exploded.

Samsung have announced that it will take "a few weeks" before they can replace all the phones.

The funny thing is that my fiancee's phone was out of warranty about 3 months and when this started happening to her, they made an exception with AppleCare to honor the warranty and replace her phone. If you do decide to call AppleCare, be persistent and resilient.

I have this issue too on my iPhone 6, 64gb purchased in 2014. I have no grey bar or lines on my screen, but each day that passes leaves me with a less responsive phone than the last. I am now dealing with an iPhone with a touch screen that remains unresponsive 75% of the day.

The fact that Apple refuses to acknowledge this issue makes me a completely dissatisfied customer, I am likely to switch to a Samsung phone, rather than their suggested fix, to hand them hundreds of dollars to purchase a new iPhone.

I am far less likely to purchase or recommend any more Apple products after this experience.  I would hope they can compensate us or give us some other option besides shelling over hundreds for a new iPhone.

Try not to buy a Samsung that explodes in your pocket.

I was thinking the Galaxy S7, hopefully it has no known issues...  I just don't know what to do anymore. I can't get anything done on this phone, I don't understand why it has to be so thin. Each time they release a new iPhone, Apple takes out necessary parts like the glue that was supposed to hold the Touch IC chip in place, or the headphone jack, or a thicker more useful battery. All because it must be absolutely thinner than necessary.

I was on the phone with apple for over an hour yesterday. They are still failing to take responsibility on this. I also tried the chat to no avail. What can I do? I guess I'll have to take it wherever I can to get the phone fixed. The fact I have apple care plus seems irrelevant. I was so looking forward to the new iPhone, I am not sure I want one after this.

How many local cell phone repair shops are capable of fixing this issue? Has anyone had luck getting this repaired with a third party?

Why should the fact that you have Applecare+ be irrelevant? Under the Applecare+ contract they will replace the phone for free, unless you have damaged it. And even if it's damaged they will replace it for $99.
