Q: I received a repair bill for $755.  What does this cover?

For a 13-inch Macbook pro retina 2015.

 

What does this $755 bill cover?  It says absolutely nothing in my repair statement.  Just lists the price and applicable tax.  Leaves no place for me to leave a message. Nothing.

    I find that the genius bar primary assessment sets out the problem.   Did you receive such an assessment?

    IF a repair was necessary, it follows that a "statement of work" would be prepared, in writing, if for no other reason than internal communications. This writing would logically be "in the system" for electronic transmission to whomever it may concern - including you in the form of an email.

     

    Who sent you the "bill"????

    Who did the work?  What did they do?

     

    How would any of us in the ASC (Apple Support Communities)  know the answers to these question.

    Since I asked this on an Apple support website I thought it would be assumed that I was going through apple on my repair.  Yes I brought it to the "Genius" bar.   Unfortunately, I think the word "Genius" will soon have the same meaning as "special."

     

    I was going to respond more than once to explain, but the Apple support forum wouldn't allow me.

     

    From what I've been able to see online, the $755 is the standard repair cost for accidental damage.  It's a flat rate.  Unfortunately, the Apple technicians don't bother to actually say what they will repair before they actually do it.  My assumption is that they quote the price to basically tell the customer to "go away."  Only if the customer agrees to pay the price, will they actually perform the repair and afterwords tell the customer what they did. 

     

    Apple doesn't charge the customer until they actually pick up their product, so don't expect to get a credit card number or anything else.

    We have only knowledge based on our own experiences with Apple Genius Bar and repair services

    We are asking probing questions so that we may understand YOUR experience as much as you do.

     

    The forum is "finicky" - even for those of us that use it regularly. You had bad luck in that this happened to you on your own problem thread.

     

    All the deductions you make sound reasonable. Unfortunate, but reasonable.

     

    If I were you, I would call the Store which you visited - or go back in person (best) - and speak to the Store Manager for a precise explanation. It then would be Apple "policy" and not anecdotal.

     

    You then could return here and enlighten all of us to the 'facts' of the matter so that next time the question is asked, we can refer them to your first hand knowledge in this thread.
