Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

How many local cell phone repair shops are capable of fixing this issue? Has anyone had luck getting this repaired with a third party?

That's impossible to know, because there is no registry of independent shops, no association of independent shop owners that has established standards of competence, no certification requirements to operate one or claim that you know how to fix stuff, and no way to even know if a given shop is honest and not just a crook.

I'm sure there are honest, competent independents, but finding one is a crap shoot. And don't go by Internet reviews; they are almost always created by shills who are either relatives or are paid for their reviews. The biggest crook by far is the company that routinely overcharges for substandard products and when they go wrong charges for a replacement that has the same problem. The most profitable corporation in the world and guess why.

My previous iPhone 5 had the infamous inflating battery problem that also wrecked its screen and now I have a useless iPhone 6 to match. Never again, I'm finished with Apple for good.

Keeping my fingers crossed with my 6+, so far so good, I was planning on getting the 7 anyhow, but don't know how well my 6+ will sell resale, so sorry y'all are having problems with your phones. My wife 6 is still working well,

This issue has been proven to be a widespread problem with iPhones 6 and 6 plus. It has been labeled "Touch Decease."

"Proven?" WOW! Please submit the proof. And how widespread? Does it affect all 230 million iPhone 6's? 10% of them (23 million)? 1% of them (2.3 million)?

You do realize that labeling something does not give it veracity. It was labeled that by an independent repairer who profits by making a big deal about it. By googling for that label you get directed to the repairer's web site, and to a law firm. Great marketing gimmick, but it does nothing for people who really do have a problem.

It's so easy for you to look at someone's claim and brush it off as an isolated incident. I believe the truth isn't found by brushing off the claims of the few. If the world were developed by people with that small-minded mentality, we'd still teach that the earth is the center of the universe and slavery is ok. I prefer to fight for the minority.

IT's happening to my IPhone 6plus also. The touchscreen is non-responsive all of the time. I've forced restarted the phone. Erased and restored with ITunes from the cloud and then without the cloud. I added the Apps back one at a time because Apple and Verizon said it could be the Apps. Now I find out its due to a chip in the phone. Why won't Apple acknowledge the problem and replace our phones. I have to lock and unlock my phone numerous times for it to reset itself and work. It's so frustrating. At times I can't even make a call, answer the phone or turn off the phone. Has anyone been able to have this issue fixed?

research on the web and I found that it is due to Bendgate.   The touch-chip breaks away from the motherboard.  I had the phone in my back pocket and was moving a pile of wood and some good sized boulders so I was the root cause.  Apple will not acknowledge the problem.  I went through all the suggestions  reboots, reset etc.  It is a brick two weeks past my warranty period.  I have two iphone 6 as one is always 'in the shop'.  I dropped one from 2 feet and screen shattered.  I think I am going to get a Lumia 950 XL as my iPhone back-up.

Has anyone them prevailed yet, anyone can sue over whatever annoys them, for that to mean anything they have to win.

    From 9to5mac.***/2016/08/29/apple-iphone-touch-disease-lawsuit/

    the filing (via MR):

Apple has long been aware of the defective iPhones. Yet, notwithstanding its longstanding knowledge of this design defect, Apple routinely has refused to repair the iPhones without charge when the defect manifests. Many other iPhone owners have communicated with Apple’s employees and agents to request that Apple remedy and/or address the Touchscreen Defect and/or resultant damage at no expense. Apple has failed and/or refused to do so.

As a result of Apple’s unfair, deceptive and/or fraudulent business practices, owners of the iPhones, including Plaintiffs, have suffered an ascertainable loss of money and/or property and/or value. The unfair and deceptive trade practices committed by Apple were conducted in a manner giving rise to substantial aggravating circumstances.

Those abused phones (those put in back pockets and sat on) are likely more prone to this issue - but mine has never been in a back pocket or subjected to such bend-type stresses, yet suffers from this intermittent unresponsive screen issue ("touch disease" as it is now labeled).
