Q: How to speed up my impossibly slow MBP

Late 11 MBP, 4gigs ram, 250 gigs free on the hard drive.  It has recently been sluggish to the point of being unusable.

Using the internet has become so slow I've been just resorting to my phone for a most things, (I HATE using phones).  YouTube takes like a minute just to play a video.  Merely scrolling down a page is on a 5-10 second delay.

I can no longer use my music composing/recording programs at all. Sessions created on this MBP now play back slow and choppy.  This is especially frustrating to me due to the fact that this is the main reason I bought it.

I know I could get more ram, or make other hardware improvements, but the $ is not there and I just want it to work close to like it did with the same specs.

The only thing that may or may not be a clue (I know at the very least that it's some kind of issue) is when I restart or shut down a window appears asking if I want to continue the installation of some program I can't figure out.

Virus, maybe?  Malware?20160820_085113.jpg

Anyways, any help or advice will be greatly appreciated or this thing is soon to become a $1500 table stabilizer.

Thanks in advance.

Just uninstalled TuneUp and Crossover through AppZapper, was that all I needed to do?

I'll read the link you sent regarding the host file this evening.

    Thanks a bunch.

I've never consciously installed this, how do I go about deleting it?  All I know how to do is look in applications and it's not there.

    Follow this sequence:

    /System/Library/Extensions/PACESupportFamily.kext

    Ciao.

Thank you for the reply, but is it something as simple as just trashing that file only?  Nothing anywhere else?

You wrote that you read the link Allan Jones provided, but that Mac's Hosts file still appears to be modified.

Please read OS X El Capitan: Install, update, and uninstall apps. Although it is written for the current OS X version, it remains applicable to earlier versions.
