Q: Playlist...want mp3 only

I have a new car that I can connect a thumb drive to.

I have created a playlist that I've copied to the thumb drive.

Problem is the playlist is made up of various formats (as is my iTunes library) and the car will only play mp3 files.

Question: How can I create a playlist in iTunes that is ONLY made up of mp3 files?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

In iTunes, open Preferences. Under the General Tab, select Import Settings. Select MP3 Encoder and select OK, and select OK again. Select the Playlist you want to change and then select all songs in the Playlist. Then select File > Convert. Once it is done you will have two version of each song converted in the playlist and your iTunes Music Library.

Thanks. I knew about the converting option.

I'm just wanting to "create" a playlist that is only made up of mp3 files.

Trying to prevent having multiple copies of song files.

    Can this not be done?

    Nathan,

In iTunes, the MP3s will have a "Kind" of "MPEG audio file."  You can put them into a playlist either automatically or manually.

To create a Smart Playlist that automatically includes them all, you need a rule as shown below.  (You can add more rules if you want to be more selective.)

Or, if you want to find them manually, put your library in "Songs" view, make sure the "Kind" column is enabled, and you can see which ones have Kind = "MPEG Audio file," and drag all or some of them into a regular playlist
