Q: all mac/ios mail stopped syncing IMAP Yahoo
Hi All,
first post. I've scanned alot of questions and can't seem to find a similar issue so here goes:
I have 4 different email accounts with my ISP which run off Yahoo's servers.
3 of them are still working fine but as of last week one account will not sync on any of my Apple devices/spftware
I'm running El Capitan on my iMac
Yosemite on my Macbook air
I'm running ios 9 on both my ipad and iphone 5s
here is what I have tried and some more facts:
1) deleted and re-added the account on each device several times. Mostly it doesnt even connect or allow it to be added back on the device. If it does, occasionally an email trickled through but all of my folders do not show up, or if they do they are empty
2) the account info is correct, as I can login using webmail and the yahoo mobile app (which i hate, but gets me through)
3) my ISP immediately puts up their hands and blames software and walks away since I can login to the account using their webmail
4) when i try to re-add the account i get a timeout from the IMAP port 993, or i get a warning the user/pass are incorrect, or a general "could not connect" message
5) I have added it using the Yahoo account template, and also using "add other" - both have the same results
6) i even downloaded Thunderbird and tried adding the account there on my macbook, to no avail.
7) finally i added it to my work computer, which is running Outlook 2013 on OSX Lion and it worked!
Sorry this is rambling, but I just cant figure out what is going on with all of my devices. could it be a setting or update that affected all 4 mac devices that I own? Has anyone encountered this problem where only one account is singled out with identical settings across all native Apple mail software?
thanks!
iMac (20-inch Early 2009), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

I had the same issue and was able to fix it by logging in to yahoo.com, then go to your Account Info, then Account Security. Enable "Allow apps that use less secure sign in" and your apps should work again.
Yahoo appears to have changed their security policies, and are "recommending" their own apps instead of 3rd party mail clients. Hope this helps.
