Q: Match using new audio fingerprinting?

In mid-July Apple announced they would be using new audio fingerprinting to handle the incorrect matching it was doing for music that it said was stored in their Apple Music database when in fact the music was unique (like live or alternate recordings). They were going to be done this rescan of users by the end of August. I have seen no such impact on my iTunes library, which has a ton of live music that is currently incorrectly matched. How is this Apple project progressing?

As this is a user-to-user technical support forum, no one here would have any inside information on any Apple projects. Sorry.

I don't need "inside information". I'll rephrase the question that users can answer...  Have any of the other users here seen a change in their library that had previously improper matches?

    Hi,

itunes match already uses audio fingerprinting. The changes only apply to Apple Music. If you have already downloaded the incorrect matched tracks, these tracks will not be updated.

If you have not seen any changes, try deleting the tracks and reimporting the original.

I am an Apple Music subscriber and have been for a few months.

So Apple won't be rescanning my incorrectly matched library? They'll only look at newly added tracks?

I have about 5000 tracks taking up 50GB in live recordings that are almost all incorrectly matched. In order to get those to play properly on other devices (and not point to the studio version as they're doing right now) I'll have to add these tracks back to my library so Apple will rescan them correctly? Doing this will lose song ratings, date added, play counts, etc. This seems like a really bad plan.

Just tried adding one concert back to my iTunes library. It only changed the "date added" field. It maintained all the other metadata like song ratings. They all also still show "iCloud Status" as "Apple Music". Same incorrect mismatch exists.

There's no way to get iTunes to rescan my library to do this new audio fingerprinting? The article said, "If you’re an Apple Music subscriber but don’t have iTunes Match, you will start to see “Matched” in the iCloud Status column of iTunes on your Mac as the service rolls out."

I kind of have the same problem right now. I also want to "rematch" all the songs, so that live and studio versions don't get mixed together.

I found a way to force this rematch: On your iOS device hit delete and then remove from My Music. Then the iCloud Status in iTunes will change to "Removed" (the ratings, date added etc. don't change). If you right click on the songs and say add to iCloud Music Library they are rematched using the audio fingerprinting.

This works pretty good, but i noticed one big problem: all the songs are removed from any playlist, when you delete them from My Music. Since i have a lot of playlists, this is unacceptable for me and i haven't found a way to avoid this.

Strange thing is, i did this routine to a lot of songs some weeks ago, and they were not removed from the playlists. I have no idea what changed, except that i got a new iPhone from Apple Support and restored it with an iTunes Backup.

Anybody have an idea how to avoid this behavior?

    I've found the solution:

Just turn the iCloud Music Library in the iTunes settings off and then back on.

This caused a new scanning of my library. Previously I had about 4000 of my own songs with an iCloud Status "Apple Music". Now they all have either "Uploaded" of "Matched".

First tests on my iPhone show that it now plays the correct versions of the songs.

    Hope that helps you.

I tried that this morning. Unchecked "iCloud Music Library" within General Preferences of iTunes for Windows. Almost all of my library disappeared; I freaked out a bit. Then checked iCloud Music Library. Took a bit to bring the music back intot he library. Then it seemed to really take a while during the updating of the library, so I had high hopes. No luck. didn't change the 5000 Apple Music tracks to Uploaded.

Ok that's strange. Have you tried the other way to force an upload i described above:

"I found a way to force this rematch: On your iOS device hit delete and then remove from My Music. Then the iCloud Status in iTunes will change to "Removed" (the ratings, date added etc. don't change). If you right click on the songs and say add to iCloud Music Library they are rematched using the audio fingerprinting."

If that doesn't work, maybe you don't have the audio fingerprint feature yet. I've read that Apple would roll out this feature bit by bit. But that was some weeks ago and i thought everybody must have it by now.

    I'm on Windows and Android.

Removed Apple Music from Android this weekend and reloaded the app. That didn't solve anything, but I didn't think it would (I removed it for different reasons). The issue sits within iTunes.

I'll call Apple this week to see if they have an audio fingerprinting update.

Is there no option on Android to remove music from the library?

It is of course an iTunes problem. But in iTunes there is no way to remove music from the iCloud library without deleting it from the hard drive too. So you need to use another device (iOS, Android, another iTunes library on PC or Mac) to do it.

I was on the phone with Apple support on sunday. The first one i talked to had absolutely no idea how the whole Apple Music and iCloud stuff works together. The second one understood the problem but said, there there is no workaround by now to force a rematching of the whole library. Turning iCloud off and on again was the only thing he imagined, that could help. And it did.

The only two options within "Library" on Apple Music for Android are Sort and Add Playlist Songs to My Music.

Yea, I think calling Apple about this will be a futile act. I'll probably just check iTunes every few days for changes.

Thanks for keeping an eye on this thread. I appreciate that someone is feeling my pain.
