Q: Connect TM wireless to an existing net

I want to connect my TM 2 to my existing net just as a wireless client. My primary router is not an Appleproduct but must stay as is. My plan is to use TM connect my NAS Synologi with cable in a separat room so I can have my TM and NAS away from my primary router. I do not understand how to do this. So please help

The Time Capsule needs to connect to a modem or modem/router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection......just as the printed Setup Guide illustrates.

The only exception to this basic setup would be if you have another Apple router producing the wireless network, in which case the Time Capsule could wirelessly "extend" that network.

If you are willing to add an AirPort Express, it might be possible to configure the AirPort Express to pick up the wireless signal from your router and the "join" the network in that manner. Then, it might be possible to have the Express send an Ethernet signal to the Time Capsule. An unusual setup to say the least.

Notice that I used the word "might" here two times. There are no guarantees that this type of setup would work well for you.

    Hi Bob

Thankyou so much for a very usefull response to my problem. I understand, that the best way is to move my TM to the primary router and connect it with a cable and join it to my existing network as a client.

Then the NAS and the TM will be in the livingroom and not in a distant office as I wanted.

Life is hard and the wife will certainly not look happy.  :-))

If you want to locate the Time Capsule in another area from the primary router......and you cannot run the Ethernet cable through the house......then you do have another option:

Use a pair of Ethernet over Powerline (EoP) adapters to send the Ethernet signal over the existing AC powerlines in your home. The theory with these devices is that you already have the wiring in place, you just need the adapters.

In practice, things do not always work as well as the theory suggests, so keep that in mind if you decide to try the EoP adapters.
