Q: External Hard Drive

My Book Studio 1TB Firewire 800, although its light is flashing as usual and seems normal, has disappeared from the iMac. Have disconnected and reconnected the cables and the adapter (Firewire 800 to thunderbolt). Just before its disappearance, I started getting messages saying that the disk had been ejected wrongly or something like that. What do you think the problem is? Thanks for your help in anticipation.

First reset the SMC and PRAM per the instructions in Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets. If that does not work, then try another cable and plug it directly into one of the ports on your Mac. Do not use a hub!

If all of these fail then it seems like your External Hard Disk has failed and must be replaced. Many experienced users on these forums only use OWC (www.macsales.com) Mercury Elite Pro series of External Hard Disk due to the high quality enclosures.
