Welcome to Apple Support Communities, and congratulations on your new MacBook! Getting a new computer is very exciting, and I'm sure it will be even better once you get your email set up. I'm happy to assist you with getting your email set up on your new MacBook.
If your email provider uses Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP), this means that the messages are stored on your Email Service Provider's (ESP) mail server. Setting up mail on your new MacBook will allow you to download all sent and received messages that's stored on the mail server.
You can use this website to try and find your mail settings: Mail Settings Lookup. If it's not listed there, please use contact your ESP and gather the settings in this article: Mail settings you might need from your email provider.
Once you have the correct settings, use the article Use Mail on your Mac to set up Mail, specifically, this section:
Set up Mail
If you haven't already set up your email account, you're prompted to set it up when you first open Mail.
Choose your email provider from the list, then click Continue.
Enter your name, email address, and email password, then click Create.
If necessary, Mail might ask you for additional settings. After you finish creating your account, you can add additional accounts by choosing Mail > Add Account.
Cheers.
