Q: How do I prevent media import dialogue box opening automatically on inserting media card?

I know I'm not the only one with this issue - but can't find a solution anywhere. I have FCPX open pretty much permanently (it's what I work on), but occasionally I will insert an SD or CF card in to my machine to work on something else, but FCPX automatically brings itself to the front and opens up a media import box, even though I don't want to do anything with FCPX with the media on these cards: how do I stop FCPX from doing this - it is a right pain! Cheers.

Last time this was asked I don't believe a solution was found.

Making a feature request to have this switched on or off is a good idea otherwise as Russ suggests, Command-I as a quick toggle off.

This drives me nuts. Mostly because FCPX also won't let me unmount SD cards if I import files from them, so I end up having to cancel the automatic import dialog "feature", copy to desktop, then import from there. It's 2016 not 1998. This sort of glitch shouldn't happen.

I concur with the part about the automatic launching of the import window being a nuisance. One should at least have a preference setting to disable this, as others have written in this thread.

As to not being able to unmount the cards after an import, I do not have this experience - only thing that comes to mind is that perhaps FCP X is still importing in the background, in which case it would make sense not to unmount.
