    Hi Christiana,

As far as I am aware there is no opt-out option for Photos Faces. However you can only side-step the issue by clicking the Albums tab > Faces, and select each found face & delete it. You cannot bulk select, so this must be done manually for each face.

If you are using OSX, running the following command in terminal should precent any more faces from being detected:

    defaults write com.apple.iPhoto PKFaceDetectionEnabled 0

Let me know if this helps!

    Alex

No, it cannot be disabled in Photos.

You can only ignore the detected faces and prevent them from showing as an overlay on the enlarged photos by turning the Faces names off in the View menu"View > Hide Faces names".

In the recent Photos version you can select a large range of faces thumbnails in the strip below the Faces album to delete them all at once. Click on one faces thumbnail, then scroll to the right, hold down the Shift key and select the last faces thumbnail, then press the delete key.

The Terminal command,  that Alexander UK posted will work in iPhoto, but not in Photos. Photos is very different from iPhoto.

And there is not much hope, that Apple will change this in the near future. The new  features in Photos for Mac in the next macOS version Sierra (the Memories and smart searches) are relying on the Face improved detection.  http://www.apple.com/macos/sierra-preview/
