Q: Downloading and updating

I have yet to figure out which is the best way to go. I have yet to install El Capitan but I am wondering if anyone can tell me the experience that has been had with El Capitan and Microsoft 2016 vs staying with Maverick and downloading 2011?

I need word for school papers and need to know whether or not I will have everything I need using 2011 vs 2016?

Any info and/or personal Experience regarding this question would be appreciated.

I am working on a 2013 Macbook pro.

I'm running Microsoft Word 2011, and El Capitan, and I have had no issues. I can't tell you about 2016 and El Cap, but 2011 and El Cap work together just fine for me
