Q: When migrating Aperture Projects into PHOTOS will the Names of Projects appear on the new Photos "albums"?

Preparing my Aperture Library (with deep levels of folders/projects/albums) to migrate to Photos.  I want to know if the NAMES of my folders/projects/albums will be retained in Photos and will appear in the new Photos albums view.

Using Aperture 3.6, and Photos is up to date. OSX 10.11.6

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2), 2013 AMANDA 27" iMAC

Yes, they will migrate. To more easily confirm everything is fine select Show Sidebar in View menu. Also, your current Aperture library will remain unaffected when you migrate, so youre not really taking any risks by trying.

Just an add-on to Rysz's reply.  This support document describes, how an Aperture Library will be migrated, if you have not seen it yet:

It's not so much dounting (you just click once to Migrate), but it is a long process, especially if you enable iCloud Photo Library, so give it plenty of time.

    Good luck!

Thanks léonie.  Helpful link.  I'd read it before, but still wasn't sure whether the NAMES I'd assigned in Aperture would be retained in Photos.  Appreciate your suggestion

Yes, I've calculated that 245 GB may take 14+ DAYS to get into iCloud storage.  Still trying to understand how that works, and whether it's even worth doing.  Do you have thoughts on that?

iCloud Photo Library is a syncing service. It will upload your library to iCloud and update any changes you do on any device across all devices syncing with this library. I enjoy iCloud Photo Library, because it keeps the library on all my Macs updated . I can start editing the photos on my Mac in my office at work, and when I get home I can continue wirer I left of at work. all edits sync, and all metadata, except the faces. The library will also sync to to my iPad and my iPhone.

If you do not need to keep multiple Macs in sync or do not want the complete Photos Library on your iPhone or iPad, you do not really need iCloud Photo Library, unless you want to keep the library in iCloud to save storage on your devices.  If you use "Optimize storage" on your Mac or iPhone, iCloud Photo Library will keep the original image files only in iCloud and optimized smaller versions on the devices, if the storage does not suffice. You can still browse the thumbnails this way, but if you want to edit a photo or export it, iCloud Photo Library will download the original from iCloud. With an "Optimized" iCloud Photo Library you need internet access to work with the library. When I tried the optimized library on my iPhone and iPad I found it simply too slow. I am not patient enough for the photos to download, so I disabled it again and use iCloud Photo Library only on my Macs for syncing. On the iPad and iPhone I switched back to iTunes sync.

Helpful to have your candid explanation of how iCloud Photo Library actually works.  I'm concerned about slow internet access too.   In some cases using an external drive, connected by Thunderbolt, may be a better way to get images back and forth on multiple Macs.  Thanks.
