Q: No Sound after installing windows 10 on MBP 2012

Hi Everyone,

Here is what I have done.

I have MBP 2012 with El Capitan on it.

I have installed windows 10 on it. Below are the steps that i followed.

  1. Changed Plist file to enable windows 10 iso creation on USB for my MBP (PreUSBBoot to USBBoot and 2 other usual changes)
  2. Installed Windows 10 ISO file
  3. Made a bootable USB though Bootcamp with drivers
  4. Used disk utility to partition the drive for windows (Reason - as it gave error while installing windows, EFI MBR windows only on GPT device Error)
  5. Restarted my MBP used option key and selected EFI boot (as while installing windows from Bootcamp it gave an error saying no bootable device found)
  6. Installed Windows and loaded Driver through bootcamp setup
  7. Everything works fine but the sound

Tried but failed

  1. Clean installing of windows though bootcamp partition (error - no bootable device found)
  2. EFI Boot (Error - EFI MBR GPT error, windows can be installed only on GPT Error)
  3. Tried updating drivers for sound. However, did not work

Please help me with steps to resolve this. Also, the windows is not activated is there anyway through which i can still get windows 10 for free.

Modifying Info.plist is incorrect. Your 2012 MBP supports both, USB and DVD installations. Please use BCA and remove the current installation. Installing Windows using EFI Boot on a preUEFI machine will cause more problems.

    Hi Loner T,

    Thanks for your reply

I did modify P.list as there was no option available for me to make bootable usb from Windows ISO in bootcamp.

Do you suggest to overwrite p.list with the default file and then try to install windows once again from the Bootable USB through Bootcamp. If yes, I hope you have considered the fact when i have tried installing windows multiple time through bootcamp it gives me an error no bootable usb detected. Enter a bootable device and press any key.

Also, If i get the error once again this time do you want me to install windows from EFI BOOT

On my 2012 13-in MBP, El Capitan shows the following UI when I run BC Assistant.

No worries. 2011 Macs do not directly support W10 as shown in Use Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support .

However, you can install W7 using a DVD, and then an in-place upgrade to W10 will work. W7 on 2011 can be installed in legacy BIOS/MBR mode.

Thanks a lot. I have already installed windows 8 for now. will try to update it to windows 10 tonight. I am sure i have to buy it now. I am also worried if it will support the sound driver for me as it did not when i EFI booted my system.

Also, is there still any way through which i can get windows 10 for free.

If W8.1 is correctly installed (using BIOS/MBR) and your sound works properly, It should continue to work, if you upgrade without any issues. EFI Boot is not supported on your specific model.

    No.
