Q: Right side of finder cut off

When I open finder from the Trash or Downloads icon (but not when I open finder from its own icon), part of right side of the window is cut off as you can see in the picture. If I take the mouse and drag the divider of the cut off part to the right, it pops over and is fixed, but when I open a new window it does the same thing again. How can I fix this?
