Q: IOS 9 Voice Memo Issue

I am having an issue with voice memos in IOS 9 while the iPhone 5 is connected to my Ford F-150 SYNC system.

What is happening is that when I start the voice memo app the vehicle acts like I am making a phone call. The music stops playing (not a bad feature actually). The display indicates a phone call is taking place. I cannot hang up using the screen on the SYNC system. The only way to get music back, actually to get the SYNC system back, is to force terminate the voice memo app.

I am trying to determine if the problem is within the SYNC system or within IOS. The problem did not exist in earlier versions of IOS. It may even be a compatibility issue between SYNC and IOS and not the fault of IOS entirely. I had the problem while running the beta (even IOS 9.1) and reported the issue to Apple multiple times but the problem still exists within IOS 9. For your information I did a DFU restore on the phone to get IOS 9 back and get out of the beta program.

So I am asking if others that have their phones connected via bluetooth to their vehicles are having the same issue with the voice memo app.

iPhone 5, iOS 9

I went to settings>messages> scroll down to Raise to Listen and slide it off.  See if that helps.

Thanks, I will make the settings change and see what happens.

I just did the update recently and I am having the same issues with linking my voice memos to a speaker. Do you have any updates on how to fix this?

Nope. Recent upgrade to IOS 9.2 did not solve the issue. Ford is blaming Apple, Apple is blaming Ford. Neither wants to take responsibility.

There is an update to the SYNC system that I installed on my vehicle. Whether that cures the issue I don't know. There is a blurb in the release notes about a problem with IOS 9 and SYNC that Ford is working with Apple to resolve. It certainly did not mention the voice memo issue. I have not tried since installing the update. Perhaps next week.

I'm having the same problem with a Samsung R1 speaker that we recently purchased. I'm running iOS 9.3.5. When you click on a voice memo to play, it silences background apps (if any are playing), but does not play the voice memo except on the phone (or phone speaker, depending on the speaker selection.) Frustrating.

I have the same problem: I am connecting a BT UE Roll speaker which works perfectly with other applications. Here is a screenshot for the Music app for instance: IMG_4484.PNG

When I try to play voice memos in the same way, I either get the speaker icon on the top right of the screen (no choice of devices) or this weird screen (instead of the previous one):

    IMG_4483.PNG

As you can see, no trace of the BT speaker. What is weirder, is that the system sounds (e.g. volume up/down) still come through the BT speaker!

Definitely an iOS bug, judging by the range of devices involved. Bizarre it hasn't been sorted out yet.
