Q: I downloaded the 9.3.5 upgrade and now my phone does not ring nor do I get notified when I have a text

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. After reading your post, I understand that alert sounds (for things like text messages and your ringtone) do not play when you receive a text or call. I use my iPhone to keep in touch, and need to be alerted when I receive a notification, so I know it's important those sounds are working. I would be happy to help!


The first thing I would suggest is checking to makes sure your iPhone is not set to silent. There is a switch on the left side of your iPhone, above your volume keys. If it is pushed backward and you see orange, your phone is set to silent. Push it forward, and test your alert sounds. You can use the diagram in the following article to help locate the switch.

If you have confirmed the silent switch is not engaged but are still not receiving sounds, the next thing I would recommend is checking to make sure Do Not Disturb is not turned on. Once you confirm Do Not Disturb is off, check your alert sounds again. If they still are not playing as expected, restart your iPhone using the instructions in the following article.
