Q: MacBook won't fall asleep for any amount of time.

Ever since I upgraded to El Capitan my MacBook hasn't slept. Recently I have become so frustrated with this. When I enter "syslog |grep -i "Wake reason" in Terminal, I get this:

I don't know what this is, or how to fix it. I've disabled wake for network access. I've disabled wake for bluetooth. I've tried everything I can think of with no result. Any advice would be exceptionally appreciated!

    Hi,

See:  "If your Mac doesn't go to sleep when you expect" here  > If your Mac doesn't sleep or wake when expected - Apple Support

Thank you Carolyn, but unfortunately I don't see anything revelatory on that page. I've looked over the "If your Mac wakes unexpectedly", "If your Mac doesn't go to sleep when you expect" and the "If the previous steps don't work" sections and tried all the items without any result.

What does Wake reason: EC mean?

There is an older discussion with a few ideas that may reveal or perhaps

offer resolution to your issue; if nothing else, a re-install of OS X may help.

MacBook Pro keeps waking up from sleep  - see entire two page thread

and note the methods suggested by contributor Linc Davis. Unfortunately

few are around to decipher results he suggests, but check into it anyway.

{The plain Wake Reason EC does not show a contributing factor, though in

    some instances, there would be additional coded info there, on that cause.}

Had you checked any other contributing factors in the system settings; such

as 'wake for Bluetooth' that may get external signal from ?? to keep it awake?

Also it would not hurt to try those 'other' items in the cited Support article

more than once; the NVRAM reset should make the Mac chime 2 or 3 times.

And the System Management Controller SMC won't hurt to try it again, again.

And if nothing else, start in OS X Recovery, & download then reinstall the OS X.

If you have a backup and time machine archive, you could restore the computer

but be wary of using a backup or migrate what may be damaged goods into a

fully new system installation; as a migration can bring in old issues.

    In any event...

    Good luck!
