Q: Can't apply a style properly

This is the second time when I can't make a paragraph style be applied in a way it is supposed to. Say, I use Trebuche 18pt, Bold font style. I select a portion of text containing it and make a style of it. I later click the style to assign it to a new paragraph but it's holding onto Trebuche 18pt Simple firmly. How I make it work or is it a bug?

You probably have mixed style in either the original paragraph you made the Style from or in the paragraph you are trying to apply the Style to.

To make sure the original style has only one font etc. type out a short series of words so that it starts and finishes the same, apply all your properties to that, then define a new Style from that.

To force a Style onto a paragraph, click in the text and double click on the Style name in the Styles Palette.

In Pages '09 v4.3, I can make a new paragraph style from Trebuchet 18pt bold, and when I apply it to a paragraph of Times Regular 16pt, the block of Times text accepts the Trebuchet paragraph style attributes.

I finally cracked this. Turned out there indeed was something to what Barney suggested: when placing a pointer over paragraph its style on the styles sheet had the expansion triangle red which - as I noticed - usually indicates the style isn't applied. I somehow passed over that. I clicked "reapply the defined style" or smth sounding like that (don't know exactly how it reads in English since I'm using a Russian localization) and it worked. So it did with other styles. Thank you.
