Q: mac mini 2010 replace or fix?

I've a mac mini 2010, have put in extra RAM. Spent ages erasing and reinstalling OS el captain due to the dreaded spinning wheel.  Every time I try to start it, it takes forever and the spinning wheel occurs.  I have to keep doing a PRAM and it's a bit of night mare. I'm wondering whether to buy a new battery which somebody suggested is causing the problems or whether to send it in for repair to apple or just decide its time to throw it out and buy a new mac mini.  I've invested in Logic Pro X and to even switch on the mac mini and get it going is causing loads of headaches. It's got 8 Gigs, and it's a 2.4 gigHertz intel core duo 2 processor.  Fix or time to buy a new one? And worth travelling a few hours to the nearest apple store or send it to apple to see what they can do.  Any one had a similar experience? thanks

Try running Apple Hardware Test first:

Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support

This will tell you if there is a hardware problem or not.

Apart from running the hardware test I would recommend checking if your disk is performing as it should, HDD performance degrades over time and can get very sluggish without actually "failing".

I've given many machines a new life by buying an SSD and replacing the old HDD's.

If AHT shows no errors then

Run this and post the results here so we know more about your configuration.

Hi I've done it twice and no luck.  I did a google search and apparently you need the original disks - I don't have them....any suggestions?

It is using way too much CPU and that will slow down your Mac
