Q: bootcamp partition no longer mountable

I was trying to get OSX to be able to read the 2 Windows partitions( named System and Data repectively). Maybe due to installations of Paragon and Tuxera, now the System partition no longer mountable in OS X,  the Data partition is still accessible.

I have read LonerT's instructions to other similar problems, and here are the results of those routine checks:

is it normal that fdisk has only 1 line? should have at least 4 here?  Testdisk can't print out filenames, reporting something is damaged...

Please HELP!! Many Many Thanks!!

none of combo works    I think it is due to problems with the partition, and the same problem causes the System partition not shown in Finder.

At the beginning of this problem, the two NTFS partition were not even shown in "disk utility", but somehow they showed up later. Now, the System partition is in gray, with 0KB available, and not mountable.

Do you have an external Apple Superdrive or a second Mac?

no I don't, but if needed I can just buy a usb dvd drive.

btw, the System partition should be far from full, so it is a problem when disk utility says it has 0kb.

how do you assess the problem so far?

DU relies on the underlying file system to report disk space. It is unable to read the file system, so it reports none. Once the NTFS part is corrected, it should work properly.

We need to run chkdsk for the underlying file system to be corrected.

Can you check the amount of available disk space on your OS X partition? We may be able to install a small Windows installation and run chkdsk from this installation and correct the issue with the System partition. The other possibility is to install a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or VMware Fusion trial version, and run chkdsk on these file systems.

My recommendation is to install a VM and try to correct the problem on System partition. You can decide if Fusion or VirtualBox is easier for you.

    oh, I have parallels desktop

originally, it is because mac can not write to NTFS systems, so that I started playing with NTFS tools as mentioned above, and how this problem started

Did you use Parallels to import the System partition as a VM.  Is the System partition a Bootcamp/Windows installation?

I think it is automatically done by Parallels... Yes, System (i.e. /dev/disk0s4) is the Bootcamp partition, also verified by gdisk report in my first post.

You tried Tuxera/Paragon for NTFS, Parallels has it's own NTFS driver, as does OS X. It can be very nasty with three drivers trying to compete for the same resources, without knowing what others are doing.

My recommendation is to disable/remove Tuxera/Paragon, remove the Parallels VM which is using System (disk0s4), create a small VM using a Virtual disk in Parallels, then use it to run chkdsk on System (disk0s4). If it is clean, try to run Bootcamp directly, without any Parallels and check if it works properly. You may still need advanced repair options from the BC partition to correct the BCD.

I have already have Tuxera/Paragon uninstalled. /dev/disk0s4 is not mounted in Mac, neither in Parallels.   If not seen, can I still chkdsk this Mac partition?

Create a new VM in Parallels with 32GB Windows installation and let us check if the System partition can be repaired .

You are making me . Steve Jobs is a godsend.

If you bring up the the small VM, can you see the System volume? You may need to 'share' the partition with the Parallels installation.

oops, I might have intentionally opt off sharing the Mac drives in this PD VM   Do you know how to share them ?

    I am googling ...
