Q: Photos in Photos pixilating

Six months ago I was happily using Snow Leopard and i-photos then because Firefox became useless I had to update to El-Capitan and Photos (joke). I do not use the cloud because I don't know how or trust it. The problem now is about a dozen or more pictures in different libraries have gone pixilated despite when I get the information it still shows they are 2-3 Mb. What has happened please, how do I get them back as they were and how can I save my edited pictures to Disk.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Where are you seeing the photos pixelated?  The thumbnails in the browser, or the preview image, when you enlarge the Photo?

If the enlarged photo is looking weird, open it in Photos in Edit mode and use the button "Revert to original". I had a few pixelated photos myself in my library, and reverting the edits to the original version and starting over fixed it.

Hi Léonie thanks for your reply however it does not solve the problem. The pictures look alright in thumbnails but pixilated when opened. If I then go to edit mode all the edit tools and "revert to original" are greyed out so nothing can be done to the picture

That means that Photos cannot find and access the original image files.

Try to repair the Photos library.  If the original files are still in the library, that may restore them. See this Help page:   https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/index.html#/pht6be18f93

If repairing the library will not recover your original image files,  you will have to recover the original image files from your iPhoto Library. Do you still have it?
