I have never encountered such a phenomenon with any of my 4 MBPs. The trackpad (or button on the 2006 MBP) has always been the only source of clicks.

There are options for 'interface effects' and for 'feedback when volume is changed' but none of these really fit what you describe. The interface effects will make noises when trashing files.
There were similar clicks & scrolling effects many years ago before OS X but I can't see how you would only be missing those now

I don't know of any third part add ons that could add sounds but I guess we could investigate it if you are certain it did behave this way?
