Q: Access iCloud Photo Library on iPhone

iPhone 6+ 128gb
Running latest software
Plenty of memory left on the phone

I recently went to Apple to try to fix a very small software issue (safari repeatedly crashing) I was having with my phone.  The solution? A clean wipe of the phone.  So that's what I did.  However, I went home with what should have been a resolved issue, and it was still being funny.  Being me, I'd rather have a glitchy safari with all of my previous settings and apps in tact on my entire phone than to have a glitchy safari while trying to scrap my phone back to a sense of normalcy.  That being so, I restored my last backup (which was from the previous day) and had my phone "return" to me.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the photos from my iCloud to appear on my iPhone.  I can see them on my PC via iCloud.com, they're definitely still there, but I have NO idea how to return them to my phone.  I've tried to toggle the iCloud Photo Library button in the iPhone settings, but that didn't work, either.  I don't even mind if they don't return to my iPhone (although, ultimately, I'd PREFER that as I tend to look back over time at photos of my children and make collages with current photos), but I just want to be able to ACCESS them.  Like...anything at this point, really, to be able to see the photos on my iPhone.

I've tried to search all over on how to accomplish just accessing the photos from icloud to iphone, but everywhere only gives advice on moving photos from iphone to icloud, which I'm perfectly capable of doing.  It's just the reverse which seems to be troublesome.

Can anyone help?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.3.5, null

Just a guess - besides toggling the iCloud Photo Library button in the iPhone settings, I would also try signing out & in of iCloud - perhaps with a restart and/or forced restart in between.

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?"  lmao.. I definitely just laughed at that oversight.  Sometimes the most simple of things are also the most oblivious.

Anyways, signed out of iCloud, force restarted the iPhone, signed back in, and toggled the library to "on."  It partially worked, and I can now see photos from the last 11mos but nothing before that.  I gave it ten minutes to see if any more photos would appear, but they haven't.

How many photos are you expecting to see? 10 minutes is not very long when syncing an entire library from scratch.

Do you see any activity when you go to Settings > iCloud > Photos? You should see some text telling you how many photos are being prepared or downloaded etc. If you have the optimize setting on, that could take longer as the process is monitoring the available space on your phone and adjusting the size of the photos being stored on your phone.

Yeah, it wasn't long enough.  Another year's worth has popped up so far.  I guess I'm just impatient after banging my head against a wall over it.

thanks for the tip about the optimization thing – that probably IS why it's taking so long.

They'll all appear in due time I suppose.

    Thanks you guys!
