Q: Iphone-Android Text issue

I've had an issue when a group of friends sends text messages and I don't receive them from one of the people in the group. This group consists of 3 iPhones and 1 Android. I know the issues when people go from having an iPhone and then go to an android but forget to take of iMessage, but this isn't part of the case. We have all had the same type (iPhones and Androids) for a very long time with nobody in this group ever crossing the line and changing. This issue has been plaguing us for a very long time.

User A - iPhone

User B - iPhone

User C - iPhone

User D - Android

User A sends text that everyone always sees.

User B responds, everyone sees

User C responds, everyone EXCEPT User A sees

User D responds, everyone sees

User A responds, everyone sees

User A Never sees any response User D sends. User A,B, and C can send each other texts with no problems in a different text group (leaving User D out) and all is fine. User A and User D can text each other and all is fine. User A has other text groups mixed with iPhones and Androids that does not cause problems. any help is greatly appreciated.

A group text that contains a non-iOS device is an MMS. It has nothing to do with iMessage. An MMS, just like an SMS is a carrier function. There are no settings for SMS on the iPhone, but there is a setting for MMS Messaging, and Group Messaging. Those both have to be on for these to work. If User A is not getting User D messages, then User A needs to check with carrier to ensure they have an SMS/MMS profile on their account, given the description that you provide.

Thank you for your reply. I know it has nothing to do with iMessage, I was just referring to the problem of people going from iPhone to Android and then not receiving messages from iPhone users because of not turning off iMessage before making the switch. I looked at my message settings (as I am User A) and there is a setting for SMS (send as SMS) which is turned on and my setting for MMS Messaging is turned on so I'm not sure if this is the cause. Any other ideas?  Once again, any help is greatly appreciated. The

Sorry, but your case scenario contradicts it self.

User C responds, everyone EXCEPT User A sees

User A Never sees any response User D sends

    Which is it?

One scenario involves Android, one doesn't. Likely important.

You're welcome, but since you mention that no one has changed devices, the mention of iMessage just muddles up the conversation. As far as the setting for Send as SMS, that setting only comes into play if you are attempting to send someone an iMessage and it fails, then it would send as an SMS. The MMS Messaging is important to have on, but my original troubleshooting step still stands, and since you are User A, I'm addressing you. Contact your carrier to ensure you have an SMS/MMS plan, and if the carrier says yes, have them reset it.

Thank you for pointing out this mistake, which I do believe is an important one. The corrected statement is below.

User A Never sees any response User D C sends. User A,B, and C can send each other texts with no problems in a different text group (leaving User D out) and all is fine. User A and User D can text each other and all is fine. User A has other text groups mixed with iPhones and Androids that does not cause problems. any help is greatly appreciated.

Does the following change in the scenario change things? The mistake was pointed out to me by another user.

OK... so Android is not part of the issue.

Have you ever changed your Apple ID or "reachable at" email in Messages during this thread?

It seems user C has invalid contact data for user A, but only as part of this thread. So when user C replies to all, the historical contact data for user A is used, which may be inaccurate..

Well, since User C is an iPhone user, and you can Message this person, then it supports what I said about MMS and you needing to contact your carrier.

I'm pretty sure I haven't, but this is an issue that literally has been going on for 5-6 years. What could we do to try and resolve this?

To be honest, I think your only option may be to stop using that particular thread.

Jane you tried to recreate the scenario? Have C start a new 4 person thread and then test for the issue.

Logically, if each of B, C and D can reach you outside of the group, they have the correct contact data for you.

Take the existing thread that you don't get replies from C on... have C copy and paste the thread into a new thread but re-address it before sending. This *should* reach you as it would use C's current contact data for you.
