Q: itunes 12.4 won't play .m4a

I read online that itunes would "read, write and convert between MP3, AIFF, WAV, MPEG-4, AAC and Apple Lossless (.m4a)" so why won't it play? What audio files types will itunes 12.4 support and play? How do I convert

It's the same supported formats.  What is the error you get when you try to play the .m4a file?

I have iTunes 12.4 on WIndow 10 and the song shows as Unknown bitrate and Duration not available.  It plays in Groove Music and VLC ok - Codec in VLC shows as MPEG AAC Audio (mpg4a), but length seems a bit werird - shows as 6minutes when it's about 3m.  It gets stuck if you seek forward.

I think iTunes must be expecting the bitrate and length stuff - when you try to play it it skips over the file.

iTunes can be picky if the details don't make sense. It rarely gives error messages about content it doesn't want to handle.
