Q: I found misrepresented Malware on my Macbook Pro

The malware showed up in the form of a Search page in my Chrome browser at first as "Tavanero.something or other" then evolved and took over the initial launch page as a "Polhue.xyz something something." Has anyone heard of these malware programs? Essentially my browser was hijacked.  I went into my Extensions section of Chrome and trashed an item called "Chrome Virus Protection," after clicking the Details link and Chrome Web Store me "item not found." Instantly, I knew it was fake. The last program to install on my system was Skype, from what I thought to be a reliable source. The problem seems to be solved, except I uninstalled Skype and am weary of reinstalling.  Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks
