    Hi

You are describing Activation Lock, which prevents unauthorised use of the iPad if it is lost or stolen.

This can be disabled by the person who enabled it either entering their Apple ID and password on the device or by them removing the iPad from their devices list in Find My iPhone via iCloud.com.

If the friend who sold or gave the iPad to you is the original owner and the one who enabled Activation Lock, they can try to recover their forgotten Apple ID and password information if they have forgotten either or both of them:

If they cannot recover this information (and so cannot follow the steps described above), but they still have their proof of purchase as the original owner of the iPad, ask them to accompany you and the device to a Genius Bar appointment, where Apple may be able to assist in removing the lock.

If you cannot arrange for either of these steps to be taken, then you will be unable to use the iPad. There is no way around this security feature.

    You're welcome.

As detailed in my previous reply, your friend can recover their forgotten passcode (by following the link provided).

They can then log in online and remove the iPad from their devices list. After restarting the iPad, you should then be able to continue using it.

If your friend had originally followed the steps here before giving the iPad to you, the issue would not have arisen at all:
