Q: iPhone 6 plus intermittent unresponsive screen

So a couple days ago, my iPhone 6+ began having intermittent screen responsiveness. First time, I received a phone call and couldn't answer it because the swipe wouldn't work. I turned it off and back on with no luck. I reset it and that fixed it. That was the only issue that day. I the last few days it's becoming more frequent. Today alone I've had to reset it eight times.

What it's doing;

  • touch screen is unresponsive to touch entirely.
  • touch screen responds after a delay
  • I tap an app icon and the app two rows up opens instead.
  • from loch screen-can't answer phone calls or notifications.

Sometimes it just leave it alone and come back to it and it's fine. Sometimes I leave it alone and come back with same result and I have to reset it. Sometimes I reset it once and trying to unlock with touchscreen (because touch ID doesn't work after reset) doesn't work so I reset it twice. It has worked after the second time, so far.

The phone is in perfect condition. Never been dropped. Was updated to 8.3 the day it was released so the issue didn't arise immediately after an update.

Anyone having these issues?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.3

Apple Care Plus? Are you beyond even the Apple Care extended protection period?

Regarding the size of this issue, right now, all i can see on internet is approximation based on some Apple specific stores reported issues, along with extrapolation. It's an empiric method, but as long as Apple (obviously) don't communicate on the issue (they are the only ones having the info), that's the current "best" information we can read.

Does anyone here found something releated to the current class action "success"? I mean, numbers of plaintiff?

My iPhone 6 Plus 2 year contract ends in a couple of weeks. As its now semi useless, I've ordered a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge as its replacement. Will advertise iPad Pro on ebay shortly.

Noticed you censored my previous post. Shame it makes your own post less sensible. But good luck with the iPhone 7 and hope it doesn't fall apart for you within 2 years.

But if it does, perhaps you will then understand why so many Apple customers are justifiably aggrieved.

Thanks Jamie for your positive comment and good luck if you are also an Apple victim.

Csound1 is a user, and does not have the power to censor anything. If you post was edited or removed it was done by a host (moderator). You should have received an email telling you why. As there has been a lot of abuse of TOU in this thread it is likely that the hosts check it frequently.

Thanks Lawrence for the arguably obvious comment. I had guessed Csound1 was a user and was not personally responsible for the censorship but in the context of this thread, his defence of Apple sounded more like Apple itself denying there is any problem and so was in effect adding to the censorship.

I have personally suffered from Apples rigid policy of denial over its faulty products over many years. All its store employees ever do is swap the item for a refurbished equivalent. They have never admitted to a problem being a common complaint or that Apple was investigating it.

But what is even worse is that the refurbished replacement also often has the same fault and so offers no solution. This has been the case with my iPhone 6 Plus. I paid for the 128GB model only to find that when more than about 1/2 it's storage was used the phone kept continuously crashing. There were a huge number of complaints about this on this forum and in the media but again Apple offered no solution other than to swap the product. I did this and guess what - the replacement had exactly the same problem. So in the end I'd paid for a 128GB model but could only keep it working if I used less than 1/2 this.

And now this latest issue with 'Touch disease'. Again widely reported in the media and a large number of complaints on this forum. But again complete silence from Apple other than through the only option it seems to understand - swap the unit. However, there are numerous reports in the media that the refurbished units also commonly have the same problem.

For me this latest example of Apple indifference is the last straw and I intend to dispose of all my Apple products and move over to Android.

To describe this as just Apple's indifference is also misleading. The class action lawsuit that claims Apple's denial of responsibility is criminal is much closer to the truth in my view.

As explained by Lawrence, users can not censor posts, that is the purview of Apple employees who moderate this site, and they will have sent an email to you explaining why they removed your post.

Same problem as everyone else.  The apple tech support person i talked to on the phone seemed confused like he's never heard of an issue like this before.  Mine continues to get worse, i've reset the phone at least 4 times, tried IOS 10, you name it...I haven't even finished paying it off yet with my AT&T next plan...and it's nearly worthless.  Apple's solution?  It's old, just get a new phone.  There is only one other device i've owned that had this horrific of a death and that was my Macbook Pro...i guess i'm done with Apple.

Lawsuits, whether by an individual, or a group/class take time... lots of time.  In fact, a class action suite will likely take a couple of years to wind through courts - long after the typical user life of the iPhone 6+ models in question. It's one of several reasons class action suits often are ineffective.

But a lawsuit should NOT be a necessity - There IS a documented issue with the iPhone 6+ (and to a lesser extend, the 6) regarding the display and response issues. The real problem is discerning when ones are the result of abuse (such as people keeping unprotected phones in their back pocket to be sat on, flexed, etc.) vs those who have properly cared for their device, yet still have this problem.

As I posted earlier - my "touch disease" issue (as it is now being called) started when Apple tech at the nearest Apple Store replaced the screen assembly on my iPhone 6 plus because of the bad microphone issue (another known but unadvertised by Apple issue). Sadly, while I had ZERO symptoms of the touch problem prior to the screen replacement, the fact that the problem is intermittent and cannot be "forced" to replicate - Apple has been unhelpful. Its much like your car failing to start 50% of the time - so you take it to the dealer (or have it towed) - for the techs at the dealership service department to not be able to replicate the issue.  Very frustrating - and unless it does it while I happen to be in the Apple Store - and can show it to someone as it happens - I'm stuck.

Yet there are enough cases posted here and elsewhere to demonstrate that there is A problem.  Enough that Apple SHOULD address it in SOME tangible way.  Further, with reports now that 3rd party techs have been able to (supposedly) FIX this issue - tells me that there is something Apple could (if they chose to) address.

Aagree that a lawsuit should not be necessary. But what's also astonishing is how blasé Apple seem to be about the reputational loss involved with this. The most profitable corporate in the world that could be accused of offering worse aftercare than a one man back street trader?

Looks to me like much of Apple's senior management should be sacked for irresponsible corporate governance.

I'm having the same problem. It started yesterday. My screen is a mess. The worst thing that happened was my iphone screen looking like it's being possessed, opening and closing apps and typing on its own without me touching it. I removed the screen protector and all. It seem to get worse while it's charging. Seriously this iphone has been one buggy mess. Sometimes it wont charge saying that the cable is not certified and now this. They usually come and go but it is so annoying and disappointing. This will probably my last iPhone.

I hope Apple sorts this out quickly and takes full responsibilty. The iphone 7 sales could be impacted negatively otherwise ....

I doubt sales would be impacted. I am going through the same issue. Just before the keynote, I was positive I was never ever going to buy apple care plus again. But now they reduced the price to $29 if I need another screen, so guess what? I will get it again because it seems better than any other offer.

Also, as disappointed as I am, I use many things apple. They all work nicely together, so I cannot see myself going to another brand. Apple knows many of us would not switch brands because of this issue and they take advantage of that.
