To close Safari, Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps. Swipe left to find Safari. Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.

Sep 7, 2016 2:53 PM in response to GabriBreby ShagCA,What didn't work? I assume clearing Safari history and website data did not resolve the redirection. If you're accessing the internet through WiFi router, manually change the DNS settings on your iPad WiFi settings. Try using Google DNS IP at 8.8.8.8.
Clear Safari history and website data once more. Then retry Safari.
