Q: Ultimo turned to primo

Hello

I have (had) a MacBook Pro ultimo 2011 which i send to get the logic board replaced at a Apple premium reseller.

I Just noticed that after the replacement the Mac is now recognized as a primo 2011 instead of an ultimo. Also it has a different serial number. Can anyone explain what happend here, and if i should nr concerned. I now have a 15" 2,4 GHz primo 2011 Mac which was never sold with these specs.

Thanks in advance

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11), Late 2011

    The serial number would change with a new logic board. So that isn't a concern. I cannot answer the rest of your question.

    Have a nice day.

    I confess that I do not know what a 'ultimo' and 'primo' MBPs are and what differences there may be.

    That said, if your MBP did not have a 2.4 GHz CPU, I suspect it was an early 2011 MBP which came with 2.0, or 2.2 or a 2.3 GHz CPU.  The late 2011 MBPs came with 2.4 or 2.5 GHz CPUs.  It could be that the replacement logic board is for a late 2011 MBP, but in all probability, totally compatible.

    Why the serial number is different is likely due to an oversight by the installer and simply reflects the new logic board.

    Ciao.

    Primo = early

    Ultimo = late

    It did have a 2,4 CPU before i turned it in, so all in all the specs still seem to be the same. What confuses me is that the OS now recognizes my machine as an early 2011 and not as a late 2011 as it did before i turned it in

    It seems like a downgrade from what i see

    All I can tell you is that NO early 2011 15" MBP had a 2.4" GHz processor.  By definition, the replacement logic board is for a late 2011 MBP.

    Ciao.
