Q: Iphone 7 Plus starts at $769 while it's 909EUR in Belgium.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who noticed this.

During the conference Apple said that the iPhone 7 Plus will start at a price of $769 for the 32GB.

Would make sense if the 128GB one costs only a $100 more making it a $869 phone.

In Belgium it's way more expensive! The iPhone 7 Plus starts at a price of 909 EUR for the 32GB one and the one I'm planning to buy would cost me around 1018 EUR.

Tell me, why the FK does it cost almost 200 EUR more than the US one?

And when exhanging the currency rate from dollar to EUR, the 32GB one should only cost 684EUR. Which is not the case.

What the fk Apple?!

As always, the price set in the US market can not be used to determine the price in other regions.

True. But compared to the current prices of the 6S without the deducted 100EUR because of the new phone, the 7 still comes out way more expensive.

It's kinda ******** if you ask me. I'm still going to pay for it but it doesn't make any sense.

US pricing does not include sales tax, because that varies depending on the location it is purchased it. Devices purchased in Europe generally include the VAT in the posted price. You should never use the posted US price to determine the prices in Europe.

Why do people expect price parity around the globe?  How many other items are priced differently in Belgium versus the USA?  Companies set their prices based on the market they are selling in and the cost of doing business there. The same item may be cheaper or more expensive from one country to another, and there is no reason it should not be so.

If you don't like the price where you are, then don't buy the product. But there is no rational basis to automatically assume the price of anything should be the same in different countries.

Also note that the USA prices include no taxes, as those will be based on the state you purchase it from (Apple online stores do not accept international orders, so taxes will be determined by the shipping and billing address).

Alright, guess I'll just have to deal with it.

I just thought it didn't make any sense because the 6S plus, seeing the way the storage options are right now, still comes out cheaper than the iPhone 7. (Using the original prices)

Not that much of a difference though, talking about a 70EUR difference here.

Oh well, thanks for the replys!

    Why?

Higher import taxes, VERY high VAT taxes included in price (sales tax is not included in US prices), more restrictive and expensive warranty requirements, more loose and costly replacement regulations, etc, etc.

Michael, you're totally getting the wrong idea.

It's reasonable that the iPhone 7 would be more expensive in Europe taking into account the different currency rates.

But what I'm saying is totally different from what you understood.

    I'll explain;

iPhone 6S Plus 64 GB costs 969 EUR.

The iPhone 7 storages are doubled without affecting the price

iPhone 7 Plus 128 GB costs 1019 EUR.

Not that much of a difference in price but I just thought it was BS. And that the phone over here is 200 EUR more expensive. My country is just... one word; golddiggers.

Oh well.. I'm definitely buying the iPhone 7 since I'm stuck with a 4S 'cause my 6S got stolen

Thanks for the answers though! Have a nice day.

Maybe to show that it isn't restricted to Europe: All this plus 15% tax .... Yikes!

Apple often does that though - brings in the new product close to the price of the old so they don't drive sales away from the new.  I think it may also be a consequence of memory prices dropping a lot in the last year or two as well. Solid state mass storage is rapidly getting ever less expensive, so manufacturers can offer more storage without a big hit in production cost.
