Sep 7, 2016 5:54 PM in response to rrbaileyby BobTheFisherman,★HelpfulStart by uninstalling Symantec. It is doing you no good and may be contributing to your issue. Uninstall Norton, it is doing you no good and may be contributing to your issue.
You are running low on free disk space. Delete old files you no longer need and/or move data to another drive.

Sep 7, 2016 5:56 PM in response to rrbaileyby alex7375,★HelpfulDo a hardware upgrade, 16gb. of Crucial ram and 240gb. or larger SSD.
Then you can load all the apps you want and have no problems with performance.
This hardware upgrade can cost you as little as $120
16gb. of Crucial memory for mac from Amazon - $60
240gb. OCZ trion-150-series SSD from Amazon - $60

A 2010 15" MBP will only accept up to 8 GB RAM, not 16 GB.
Ciao.
