Q: importing 7m movie yields only a single 55s rejected clip

I have a 900MB, 7 minute mp4 file. When I import it into iMovie11, the only Event I see is the first 55 seconds of the movie, under "Rejected Clips". I can't find the whole movie through the iMovie interface at all. I've tried this twice. (Both times yielded the same 55 second clip.)

When I look in the iMovie/iMovie Events/New Event directory, I do see a video.mov file representing the whole 7 minute movie.

Note: I'm very new, so there may be something obvious I'm doing wrong. Thanks!

Update: Now the rest of the movie is showing up, as a second clip. That's great. But two mysteries remain:

    1. Why didn't it show up before? (It's two hours later now, and I closed and opened iMovie in the interim; that's it.)

    2. Why is my original 7 minute video imported as two clips: a 55 second rejected one, and a 6 minute clip of the rest?

    Any insights are appreciated!
