Q: Duplicating a clip inside a compound

I am working with clips inside a Compound Clip.  There is a greyed-out portion at the start indicating the area that is not currently being displayed on the parent timeline.  (e.g. the first minute from 00:00:00:00 to 00:01:00:00 is greyed-out).

 

Is it possible to duplicate the storyline clip and position the copy to start at 00:00:00:00 - which is inside the greyed area?  FCPx prevents me from sliding the copied clip earlier to align with the original, instead, forcing it to start after the greyed out portion at 00:01:00:00 at the earliest.

 

Please don't ask why I need to do this... it's complicated ;-), but it would be a big help if I could.

What if you temporarily change the trimming in the parent timeline, edit the compound as you intend, then trim it back to original starting time?

    Ha, yes that seems to be the only way.  Well, since you asked..;-) ...my supplied episode is adapted and localised for each network and region, as well as one being SD the other HD.  With the SD having been done well in advance of receiving the HD version, I can copy the attributes of the SD's audio and storyline clips over to the HD clips, but since the HD clips are supplied at a different frame rate and without the clapper, the clips must be shortened first before copying their attributes so they will paste in sync into the HD, despite the frame rate variance introducing a slight drift between the two versions, which is not too difficult to resolve with some tweaking in FCPx.  I like to make a duplicate copy of the clips in the SD version before trimming it down to the same length as the supplied HD, in order not to mess up the SD file.  Making a copy allows me to simply delete it when done.
