Q: ITunes Update- Lost music/playlists/won't sync

After updating my itunes on the 5th, I realized that all my music was gone off of my itunes, so, when my phone synced, I lost all the music on my phone as well.  I've been able to follow the instructions to get the music back into itunes, but I have to go back to clean up which songs I didn't want downloaded.  However, I still can't get the music files onto my phone.  The songs are listed.  The playlists are listed, but there are no files attached to those names.  I'm not sure what I've done wrong at this point.  I found something online that said to turn off the cloud for music, but I don't even have that as an option under my settings on my phone under music.  Any help/guidance would be appreciated!

    Hi

I have been through something similar myself... however, if you could answer these two questions for me, I will hopefully be able to guide you through until your iTunes is as you once had it

    1. Do you have your original music files saved on your mac in a folder or did you only have them on iTunes?

    2. If you do have copies on your computer, have you recently (around the time you updated your iTunes) perhaps relocated your music files to another location, as in another folder?

These are the instructions I used:

If you don't see your entire library after you update iTunes on your Mac or PC - Apple Support

    So, the same...
I was able to get my files back into itunes on my mac, but the files won't sync to my phone now.  On my phone, I see the itunes songs all listed, but they won't play.  When I try to play them off of my iphone through itunes on my mac, I get the exclamation point.  They play fine out of my regular library.

    Sazziiii...

    1. I'm not honestly sure.  I have them in a backup of my harddrive, but I think only as part of itunes.  I was able to try to move them from there the other day when I found out they were missing and although all the titles moved over, the music originally didn't until I followed Apple's instructions on how to restore my itunes file.

    2.  I hadn't moved anything before the update.  Yesterday, I moved some things following Apple's instructions on the restore option, but that's it.  Trust me, I know well enough to leave things alone.

It's a long day with no music!!!
