You give no back ground info on your 2009 MBP.

Have you been successfully running Yosemite?

You just swapped SSD for the old HD??

You made this SSD from cloning???

Most Panics happen because of RAM issues. Try re-seating the RAM.

    Hi,

Sorry this is my first Mac.

Yosemite was installed on this computer before I purchased it from someone. They said it was working fine. Background of the mac: It has (2) 4GB sticks of ram and an intel 180GB SSD Installed.

When I took the computer home I saw that I could upgrade it to El Capitan. After the upgrade I had the kernel panic issues so I reverted back to yosemite. I thought to myself maybe its an issue with the HD so I purchased a brand new one.

Last night after it has been kernel panicking for a week or so and basically unusable I installed a new SSD which I just received and installed Yosemite again from a USB install. This is the first panic after using it for an hour or so. I have no programs installed other than what comes with the OS. It is a brand new build with the latest software updates.

I have already tried re-seating the ram.

You can try running the Apple Hardware Test/Diagnostics

AHT  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509 Not definitive by any means, but may kick out an error code.

Have you tried installing the original, correct spec RAM?

Re-seating the RAM will not solve the issue of having out of spec RAM installed.  A model identifier 5, 3 MBP should have RAM modules with these specifications:  204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

Do what steadman1 says.  If you do not have the original RAM, get some with the correct specifications from OWC or Crucial.

    Ciao.

    Hi Everyone,

Thank you for the responses. I do not have the original ram but ordered it last night after seeing those comments. I will be here the middle of next week so I will keep everyone updated! Thanks again.
