Q: can't delete and iMovie
I've was able to put it in the trash but get the following message when trying to empty the trash.
"The operation can’t be completed because the item “9-4-16.mp4” is in use."

The message suggests that the clip is used in some project (not necessarily the one you are working on. However, I find this message often occurs on a mac even when the application which was using it is still running. You will probably find you can delete it after quitting iMovie.
Anything that is deleted from within iMovie is only actually deleted on quitting, presumably to leave the ability to undo.
