Q: safari is causing my computer to crash

Safari, was recently updated. Now every time I click on the "Safari icon," or "open a browser window" my computer crashes. Shuts down, and restarts. MacBook Pro 15", OS X El Capitan 10.11.6, processor 2.4 ghz, 8gb memory. This was not happening before the update. Can anyone help. I noticed several post from others with this problem.

Some things to try:  Do you have any Safari extensions installed (see Safari, Preferences, Extensions)?  If so, disable and test things out. Does this behavior persist when logging in as a different user, e.g., Guest?  Does this behavior persist when starting up in Safe Mode?  Run EtreCheck to see what is running "under the hood" which might be causing a conflict.  Consider the suggestions in the article Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue.

I've done a couple of the above options, nothing seems to work. I've also noticed that other people are having the same problem with the new "Safari Update" recently issued by Apple. Thanks 4 your help, I just want my Safari back. I also, have Chrome, Opera, & Firefox they all work fine without any problems. It's just that I use Safari 4 specific things.

A couple of the above options is not all of the options so how can you say nothing seems to work? Do as asked by CT and report back what happens, exactly.

Please post the Etrecheck report. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.
