Q: Exiting iTunes, "iTunes has stopped working".

iTunes starts "saving the library" but then alerts that "iTunes has stopped working". I select the option "Close the program" and the "saving" finishes.

Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: C:\Users\username\App Data\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins\
There are no plug-ins shown, the folder is empty.

QuickTime updated to version 7.7.9

iTunes updated to version 12.4.3

Apple Software Update to version 2.2

Error does not happen when loading iTunes in safe-mode. The program ends by saving the library correctly. iTunes Library.itl is not updated. Here's what the error produced by way of a report: "Appcrash".

C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt

C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt

When iTunes is reopened it reports that the Library.itl file is damaged and builds a new, empty library.

null, iOS 8.4, iTunes

Back to the Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash method of copying in and renaming a recent .itl file from a previous upgrade to replace the current empty(ish) iTunes Library.itl file.

I am almost finished creating a new library by importing music etc. into a new iTunes build. Given the size of the library it takes a couple of days to achieve.(above).

I also created a new iTunes build under Administrator and attached the above library to it.

Both received the "stopped working" alert on exiting. Both logins did not experience the "corrupt .itl" file notice (yet) and appeared to load properly.

I noticed that the .itl library file is updated (written to) while changes to the collection are being made, even under iTunes "safe" mode, something you will recall was not done during early attempts to problem solve. Also, the .tmp files showed briefly then disappeared. As I recall, the were left showing in a failing version.

The usual APPCRASH notice in these cases was the same.

What do you now suggest by way of solution?

Just a further followup. As you review this issue and given the attempts in the past, would I be correct that the problem is within iTunes itself and some program that causes this error. Any thoughts?

Since iTunes works perfectly well for nearly everybody (happy campers don't visit the forums) I'd be inclined to think that there is something in particular going wrong on your system that others don't see. It might be third party software causing a problem either at installation or when iTunes runs. It might be some Windows component that doesn't reply to iTunes the way that it expects. There is an outside possibility there could be an issue with your hard drive or RAM. I'm not sure offhand how you'd narrow it down.
