Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Community. I know how important it is to be able to rely on your iPhone working as expected and I'd like to help. Whenever we see behavior such as what you've described it's a good idea to try to force restart your iPhone. You can do this by pressing and holding the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time for about 10 seconds or until you see the Apple logo again and startup resumes.
If the issue persists I would recommending restoring your device to factory settings using iTunes and then restoring from a previous backup. First you should create a backup, and these articles will walk you through that process. How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings
Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup
If you continue to see the same issue after restoring your iPhone to factory settings then you may have a hardware issue and service would be recommended through either your nearest Apple Retail Store, or through an Authorized Service Provider.
If you run into any trouble the whole community is here to help.
Best regards.
