Sep 1, 2016 3:10 PM in response to hueyoby FunkyRico,Thanks Hueyo!
Nice tip! I've been dealing with this issue for a very long time...
I changed the default calendar from "iCloud" to "on my mac" and yep it works this way! Just have to assign the event to the right iCloud calendar afterwards.
Best,
Eric

How did you get an "on my mac" calendar? All I see are my iCloud account calendars. What OS level?
From an older look at this forum, this issue seems to have different manifestations depending on which Calendar View you're in. Day View behaves somewhat differently than Week or Month View. I, too, was confused by warwickweb's description of "form on the right side of the screen (underneath the calendar)". I figured out he was in Day view, and he probably means the second popup that forms, this one in the RH column overtop of the day's schedule. See screenshot below.
I still do not have a solution to this behavior on Mavericks. Maddening that I can't use iCal to create a new event.

Sep 2, 2016 3:03 PM in response to hueyoby jerrywes,I have this irritating problem also, .
I have stumbled upon a 'work-around' that's easy for me . . .
Firstly, for me the incident occurs when i enter the new event into an iCloud calendar . .
So, I found that when I enter the new event in a calendar "on my mac" , i't's OK . .
THEN I change the calendar to an "on iCloud calendar it sticks,
an then syncs properly with my iPhone 6S . . .
hope this helps others . . .

Sep 2, 2016 3:22 PM in response to jerrywesby ktshastsa,How do you get an "on my Mac" calendar? All that shows for me is the iCloud one. When I go to the File menu and click on New Calendar - the only option is an iCloud one.
I've had these same issues as everyone else of having to input my event twice to get it to stick. However, oddly, my husband, who has the same operating system and is using an iCloud calendar has never had any problems! Go figure!

Sep 2, 2016 3:50 PM in response to jerrywesby ktshastsa,I don't see a choice for an "on my Mac" calendar. I always look at my calendar in the month view. I just double click on the day I want to add an event and I have quite a few different categories of Calendars I can choose to add my event to. Such as Work, Dr. Appt., Fun, various projects, etc. I still don't see anything about an "on my Mac" calendar. I'll check out the help for Calendar and see.
Thanks,

Sep 7, 2016 8:22 AM in response to ktshastsaby stephencw,It doesn't actually appear to be an "on my Mac" vs. "iCloud" issue. ALL my calendars are "iCloud" calendars. The issue seems to be which calendar is set to "Default". Whenever you create an event, it automatically starts the event as being in that Default calendar. But put all your details in and then try to change the calendar to a different one, and seconds later... everything is gone. :-/
But the workaround mentioned in this thread of keeping the initial entry in the Default calendar, and then once you've closed the entry window, right-clicking and changing it to the correct calendar, does seem to work.
A dumb 2-step fix, and you'd think Apple would be all over this. But whatever...

Sep 7, 2016 9:02 AM in response to stephencwby ktshastsa,I tried to find out more with Help, but there wasn't any info that I could find about iCloud calendars. Apple should be ashamed they are not addressing this issue. The only way I can know an event will stay with the correct info and time is to put it in 2 times. What a hassle!

Sep 7, 2016 10:56 AM in response to ktshastsaby 10thApple,I found a work-around you may like better In another Discussion thread. Create your New Event in Dat, Week, or Month view, then before you submit it, tap Cmd-R (refresh). Works everytime for me.

Sep 7, 2016 11:07 AM in response to 10thAppleby stephencw,I tried that twice, and didn't make any difference. Still reverted to the Default calendar.

Sep 9, 2016 12:16 AM in response to hueyoby Imperial Warbler,iCal has been around for how many years? A bug of this magnitude should be addressed immediately, but Apple hasn't even tried to fix it - and this particular bug has been all over Google since at least May last year! What good is a calendar that you can't even trust to keep track of your appointments? And it really shouldn't be the end users job to find workarounds. For a short period of time, while waiting for a fix, sure, but not for years. Sorry, Apple - Jobs has been gone for too long, and I think it's starting to show. So here's my final workaround: Switch to Outlook or whatever.
