Q: osx installer

I want to create a bootable installer for OS Yosemite. Reason being, I'm installing a new SSD Drive to my 2009 macbook pro. Mac support saids download the OS X from mac app store? I can't find it? also where do I find the creatinstallmedia in terminal?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Thanks for the info. I was able to do it using my external back up drive from time machine.

Log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you previously used to download it, click on the Purchases tab, and redownload it from there. Alternatively, you can download El Capitan instead.

Once you’ve done this, you’ll be able to use the createinstallmedia command. Click here and follow the instructions carefully; spacing and spelling matters in the Terminal.

HI Niel, thank you so much. I'm doing it now. Then I'll do the terminal. I'm replacing a hard drive with a SSD one. I want to do a clean start and only have the old Safari disc. Question, if I have old back up in another external drive would I be able to just upload my iPhoto's only? I just don't want the old junk. Thanks

You should be able to restore only what you want and Migration Assistant might restore more than you want. What type of backup is it? If Time Machine, open the Time machine application on the new drive and restore the Library from your User/Pictures folder.
